Below is a selection of courses offered in the Fire School.
No refunds will be given after March 1st unless the class has been canceled.

Advanced Extrication Class

Skills covered in class: Personal Safety, Forcible Entry, Ventilation, Apparatus/Water Supply, Ladders, SCBA, Hose Loads, Streams
Fire Officer I Class
March 16-17 & 23-24

Sundays: 8:30 AM - 4 PM
To provide entry level fire officers knowledge and skills to meet the min. requirements in NFPA 1021
Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics Class
March 16 - 17 & 23 - 24
Saturdays: 8:30 AM - 4 PM
Sundays: 8:30 AM - 4 PM
Provide knowledge and skills for them in. JPRs in NFPA 1021 sections 4.6.1 and 4.6.2.
HOT Class (Hands on Training)

The H.O.T. (hands on training) class will consist of 4 stations including live fire, scba confidence, ladders and hose line advancement

Provides firefighting personnel with knowledge/skills to meet the standards set out inNFPA 1041.
Investigator I Class

This teaches foundational level education and training for fire and arson investigators.
Reading People to Leadership

Zach’s body language program, Reading People to Leading People, leads you through the skills needed to improve personal and professional communication. We help you identify when others are comfortable or uncomfortable, focused or distracted, truthful or deceptive, and feeling secure or even threatened.
S.A.F.E. Engine Work

S.A.F.E. ENGINE WORK is all about hoses and nozzles –Stretching, Advancing, Flowing, and Extending.
VES (Vent Enter Search) Class

Fire School Instructors
Chris Lee
Chris has over 22 total years in the Fire Service. He is currently a firefighter and EMT with Huntingburg Fire Department, where he also serves as a Fire Investigator and Instructor for the department.
Eric Jones
Eric Jones is currently serving as a Captain/TrainingOfficer for the Scottsburg Fire Department in southern Indiana.
Josh Knies
Josh Knies is a 10+ years student of the fire service.
Leighton Hochgesang
Leighton Hochgesang is a 9 year student of the fire service. He began his fire service career as a volunteer with the Jasper Fire Dept.
Mark Hart
Mark Hart is the Deputy Chief of Operations with the Westfield Fire Department
Matt Wells
Matt has over 18 years of experience in fire and explosion investigation. He has been with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for the last 10 years serving as an investigator and as the South Assistant Chief.
Patrick Fisher
Patrick Fisher is a 20-year student of the fire service. He began his career as a cadet firefighter in Posey County Indiana. He has spent the last 11 years with Scott Township Fire and EMS. He currently serves as Division Chief of Training and Operations.
Steve Buchta
Steve is a volunteer firefighter with the Jasper Fire Dept and is a career Firefighter/Paramedic with Scott Township Fire and EMS where he holds the rank of Lieutenant.
Tim Shot
Over 30 years in the fire service, currently serving as a Captain with the Thunderbird Fire Protection Territory.
Zach Mathews
Zach has over twenty-six years of experience in public safety ranging from police officer, Conservation Officer, detective, Investigation Section commander (overt & covert operations), Training Section commander, Office of Professional Standards commander, and an instructor of a wide variety of topics.
